Word Unscrambler
Enter your scrambled letters and instantly see every valid English word you can make. Built for Scrabble, Words With Friends, Wordle hints, anagram puzzles, and crossword clues — results are grouped by length and ranked by Scrabble score so the highest-value plays are at the top. Wildcards (?) are supported for blank tiles.
How to use the word unscrambler
- Type your letters into the input. Order doesn't matter — case doesn't matter — non-letter characters are ignored.
- Use ? for blanks. Each ? matches any single letter, and counts as 0 points in the score (matching Scrabble's blank tile rule).
- Set the minimum length. Most word games allow 2-letter plays; bump it up if you only want longer words.
- Read the results. Words are grouped by length (longest first) and sorted by Scrabble score within each group. Click any word to copy it to your clipboard.
How it works
The tool uses the ENABLE word list — Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon, a public-domain dictionary of ~172,000 English words that's the standard for free word-game software. For each word in the dictionary, the unscrambler checks whether the word's letters are a subset of your input (using each available letter at most as many times as you supplied it). Wildcards count as floating letters that can be assigned to any missing position.
Each match is then scored using the standard Scrabble letter values: A E I L N O R S T U = 1, D G = 2, B C M P = 3, F H V W Y = 4, K = 5, J X = 8, Q Z = 10. Premium board squares aren't included since they depend on where you play, not which word you choose.
Example: "letters"
Type letters and the unscrambler finds about 60 valid words ranging from 2 to 7 letters. Top picks:
- letters (7 letters, 7 pts) — uses every tile
- letter, sterol, settle, streel, telers (6 letters, 6 pts each)
- steel, leets, reset, ester, tree family (5 letters, 5 pts)
- tee, ret, set, let, els and other 3-letter fillers (3-3 pts)
- Plus 2-letter combos: et, re, te, el, es
Try scrabble, wordle, or letters? (with a wildcard) for richer examples.

Frequently asked questions
- Is this a Scrabble cheat?
- It's a training tool — same as a chess engine for chess. Use it to learn high-value patterns and uncommon short words (qi, za, ka, oe). Whether to use it during a live game is up to you and your opponent.
- What dictionary is used?
- ENABLE (Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon), ~172k words, public domain. Newer Scrabble tournaments use TWL or SOWPODS, which are similar but not identical and are not free to redistribute.
- How fast is it?
- The first time you visit this page the dictionary loads (a one-time ~450 KB download, ~300 ms on most connections). After that, every query is sub-30 ms — instant as you type.
- Can I find anagrams (exact-length matches)?
- Yes — set the minimum length to the length of your input and only same-length matches are shown.
- Does it work offline?
- Once the dictionary has loaded for the session, yes. Hard refresh and you'll need to be online again to re-fetch it.
